Job Description

 Brief Introduction

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Somalia since 1964. As a service provider with worldwide operations in the fields of international cooperation for sustainable development and international education work, GIZ works with its partners to develop effective solutions that offer people better prospects and sustainably improve their living conditions. The goal of GIZ is to support the capacity development of people, organizations and institutional structures in the partner countries so as to enable them better their living conditions through their own efforts.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is implementing various projects in Somalia, across multiple sectors and regions. One of the projects is the project “Promotion of climate resilient for food security in Somalia”.

The project has three outputs: Output A: Agriculture & Nutrition, Output B: Business/Income generating activities and Output C: Water. The 3 outputs have indicators leading to project outcome achievements. An essential prerequisite for strengthening the resilience of the target group is access to nutritious food (Output A). The impact hypothesis for Output A is that nutrition-sensitive and climate-adapted varieties can be identified for peri-urban Baidoa, and the target group trained in their cultivation as a contribution to improved climate adaptation strategies regarding food security (project objective). The assumption is that the vulnerable households will see the medium and long-term benefits of climate change adaptation measures. Output B aims to improve income generation opportunities for households in the target communities. The impact hypothesis is that diversification of income opportunities will contribute to improved climate adaptation strategies for food security.

CFSP is seeking a dedicated Project Advisor who will work on coordinating and managing technical documentation, project planning, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within the department.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be contributing to the achievement of the Climate Resilient Food Security Project (CFSP).

 

Under the strategic guidance of the Head of Project, He /She will be responsible the Coordination and Implementation of the CFSP activities in close cooperation with the GIZ team.

Responsible for Coordination of Planning and Contracting processes

He/she shall Lead the implementation of activities within the project

Ensuring a timely and high-quality delivery of activities and progress towards intended results

 

In close collaboration with the project team, supports the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of CFSP activities

 

Strategic engagement with all actors (beneficiaries, implementing partners, experts, government, field staff, etc.)

 

Technical management of experts in the project, leading national and international consultants

 

Providing professional advice to partners and cooperating with key sector stakeholders

 

Innovation and knowledge management and communication of innovations to the projects broad target group

 

Identifies and highlights quality issues with regards to quality of project delivery

 

Complies with GIZ rules and regulations (compliance), do-no-harm, and intervention sustainability early on and in liaison with the project management

 

Identification and implementation of mitigation measures

 

Manages all relevant stakeholders (implementing partners, beneficiaries, community representatives, development agencies and relevant government partners) in liaison with the responsible team.

 

Works closely with the targeted beneficiaries through weekly visits – within GIZ security guidelines – by being in constant dialogue

 

Mentoring and advising the relevant government authorities jointly with the team

 

Close Cooperation with relevant GIZ entities as well as contractors/consulting firms

 

Technical supervision of consultants and technical experts

 

Regular site visits

 

Keeping detailed records of project documents

 

Conducting training on products and techniques through educational presentations

 

Submission of progress reports

 

Contributes to project operational planning and budgeting and tracks performance of project activities against operational planning to ensure attainment of overall project indicators und contributes towards tracking expenditures against spending targets

 

Briefs and advises the project management team on project activities and strategic decisions

 

Where applicable, organizes and implements self-implementation by GIZ, such as beneficiary training, workshops, forums, meetings, and other project activities.

 

In liaison with team, represents GIZ CFSP in relevant forums.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, community engagement or a related field
  • Additional certifications in value chains, business start-ups or community engagement is desirable
  • 5 years of relevant work experience in the implementation of donor funded activities
  • 5 years of experience working in an international development agency
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a team and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed and work full time (40 hours per week)
  • willing to perform tasks outside the scope of the job description
