Salaam Development Center (SDC) is an independent, nonprofit and nongovernment organization provides project management services and research & development solutions, in the thematic focus area of livelihoods and climate changes, social development, protection and good governance based in Garowe-Puntland- Somalia.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Salaam Developed Center (SDC) is seeking an experienced Agricultural Researcher to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing our agricultural research initiatives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct in-depth research on various aspects of agriculture, including crop yield optimization, crop variety suitability, sustainable farming practices, and innovative technologies in agriculture, effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest and disease damages and its mitigation, proper irrigation systems
- Opportunities and challenges of crops suitability
- Design and implement experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of different agricultural techniques and technologies.
- Analyze and interpret data, drawing meaningful conclusions to contribute to the development of sustainable agricultural practices.
- Testing samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
- Visiting fields to collect seed, plant, and soil samples.
- Generating research papers and articles and presenting findings to SDC and other project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate findings into broader research projects and initiatives.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in agricultural research and technology to ensure SDC remains at the forefront of innovation.
- Communicate research findings through well-documented reports, presentations, and publications.
Skills and Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED COMPETENCY:
- Education: Master’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in agricultural research.
iii. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze complex data sets.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey research findings and collaborate with team members.
- Proven track record of successful agricultural research projects, with tangible evidence of contributions and impact.
- Proven writing skills and experience in providing Research. iv. Experience of producing reports/publications based on agricultural production: opportunities and challenges
vii. A good understanding and knowledge of the Agricultural Research for Development sector.
viii. Being an honest and hard worker and having good communication skills
- Experience in managing technical supporting staff.
- Have behavioral competencies such as Motivation, Excellent communication skills, Sense of confidentiality, professional integrity and service mindset, Team player attitude and motivation to perform general administrative duties, Ability to deliver accurate work under pressure, organize workload and priorities tasks and Sense of accountability and attention to detail.
- Excellent planning and reporting skills.
xii. Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali languages.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
The Agricultural researcher is expected to undertake the services with the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, competence and integrity. She /He should be able to deliver the assignments given in a most effective and efficient manner, within the period of assignment.
TIME FRAME
The research shall be conducted within 6 months, with possibility contract extension subject to the satisfactory performance. The researcher will report to the program manager constantly and work with the organization’s dynamic teams.
